Gamelan Kusuma Laras
The Gamelan Kusuma Laras was founded in 1983. The group consists of American and Indonesian players and rehearses weekly on instruments owned by the New York Indonesian Consulate. Artistic director I.M. Harjito, who is on the faculty of the World Music Program at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, is assisted by co- directors Anne Stebinger and Leslie Rudden, American musicians who have studied and performed classical Javanese gamelan music extensively.
Gamelan Kusuma Laras, Inc. is organized as a New York not-for-profit corporation. We are supported by dues from our performing members along with additional donations. These funds are used for our operating costs which include upkeep of instruments and fees for our teachers and guest artists.
Rehearsals are currently held on Friday evenings. Group members make sure you are part of our google group...click here
